When Sal Lioni Salzarulo saw the layout of a deli being renovated at 1107 Valley Road in Sterling, he heard echoes of the first store his father, Carlo Salzarulo, founder of the original A&S Italian Pork store established in Brooklyn. Sal learned to make mozzarella at nine years old. His father taught him all aspects of the business like stocking shelves, running a Boars Head route, cooking and working in the warehouse. His father never had to advertise.
After four months of renovations, build outs and improvements, the newest store in the A & S family opened Memorial Day weekend, and for Sal who lives in Watchug this has been a homecoming. Sal has grown the business to include catering for some of the biggest names on Capitol Hill. Sal makes the trek to Washington, D.C. a few times every month to cater fundraisers for Politicians like senator D’Amato of New York, Congressman Mike Ferguson of New Jersey, Senators Mike Enzi, and John Barrasso MD of Wyoming and congressman Pat Tiberi of Ohio.
But maintaining the tradition of A&S quality is Job number one for Sal and his team.
Come by today to meet Sal and his team, and taste what true, authentic Italian food should be at the original A&S Italian Food Store! Sal will thank you for it and Carlo will too.
